What is POK?

Polyketone, also known as POK, PK,  is a new green polymeric material made of CO, one of major air-pollution source. It is is produced from olefin monomers and carbon monoxide. It has similar properties to nylon and acetal. Some trade names for polyketone include Poketone, Carilon, Karilon, Akrotek, and Schulaketon.

Why POK?

Polyketone is a high-performance thermoplastic polymer with a variety of desirable properties:

  • Mechanical properties: Polyketone has high tensile strength and stiffness, as well as good impact strength. 2.3 times higher than PA and PBT.
  • Chemical resistance: Polyketone is resistant to chemicals and hydrolysis.
  • Thermal stability: Polyketone has good thermal stability. -40°C-120°C. HDT 210°C
  • Environmental compatibility: Polyketone is considered "eco-conscious" because of its reduced environmental impact during production.
  • Solvent resistance: Polyketone has good solvent resistance.
  • Water absorption: Polyketone has low water absorption.
  • Oil resistance: minor change after 3,000 hrs test, 2 times better than PA12.
  • Anti-abrasion: 14 times higher than POM.
  • Gas barrier: excellent performance
  • Fireproof: when polyketone burns, hydrogen atoms and ketone groups react to generate water, and the carbon deposit layer covers the surface to isolate it from oxygen and heat. The amount of flame retardant added is 50% of nylon. (UL-V0 grade)
  • Food-contact safe.

How do we process?

Polyketone can be easily processed by injection molding and extrusion.
